It has already been a busy week here is Clarington with all of the television coverage of the salmon rescue (although some brown trout has also been rescued). Breakfast Television with Jennifer Valentyne was here yesterday (Tuesday) doing a live broadcast. Any CBC was out later in the afternoon to tape a follow-up story about the same topic ? it aired last night towards the end of The National. Talk about fish tales!
Well, the upcoming weekend looks like it is going to be action packed to say the least. To kick it off it is JERSEY DAY which kicks off the Sports Day in Canada program which is presented by CBC Sports, Radio-Canada Sports, ParticipACTION and True Sport, working with national sporting organizations and their networks of coaches, athletes and enthusiasts across the country. It?s an opportunity for all Canadians to celebrate the power of sport to build community, fortify our national spirit and facilitate healthy, active living. Wear the jersey of your favourite team!
Friday is also the first day of Culture Days in Clarington. Culture Days is a collaborative coast-to-coast-to-coast volunteer movement to raise the awareness, accessibility, participation and engagement of Canadians in the arts and cultural life of their communities. There are 8 participating sites in Clarington. You can pick up a postcard promoting the event partners at the Tourism Office (181 Liberty Street South, Bowmanville) or you can click this link and view a pdf version of the postcard ? including a map of all the partners. Culture Days in Clarington runs from Friday September 28th to Sunday September 30.
Friday evening brings the popular Sports & Leisure Fair at the Rickard Recreation Complex from 6:00 ? 8:00 PM. Bring your skates and enjoy a FREE skate with the players of the Clarington Junior C Hockey Club. This will be followed by skating demonstrations by the Bowmanville Figure Skating Club. In the Banquet Hall there will be community group displays promoting and informing the public about the awesome programs and services provided throughout the Clarington community.
On Saturday, Family Safety Day (10 AM ? 4 PM) provides families the opportunity to learn about being and staying safe. Demonstrations by Clarington Emergency & Fire Services, Durham Regional Police Services and Ontario Power Generation ? Darlington Nuclear; live performances and much, much more. It?s so fun, you won?t notice that you?re learning! Kelsey?s Restaurant is also a partner in the Family Safety day event. Gather the family together and make your way to Fire Station #1 (west side of the Rickard Recreation Complex) and don?t forget to bring your camera! Check out this link for more information.
Saturday night? There is more FREE FAMILY skating at the Darlington Sports Centre (Taunton Road just west of Hampton). This is offered as part of the Sports Day in Canada promotion and the Municipality of Clarington.
Don?t forget Culture Days in Clarington also operates Saturday September 29 and Sunday September 30.
